”Emotions” will determine your Facebook Newsfeed

Facebook decided it was time for a new algorithm update. This time the social media giant announced that it will give it`s barely 1 year old “reactions” a more significant role in deciding what content is relevant or not.

So apparently Facebook decided that the use of Love, Haha, Wow, Sad or Angry on a certain post is a stronger signal that the user is interested in that kind of content than just using the old fashioned Like.

“Over the past year we’ve found that if people leave a Reaction on a post, it is an even stronger signal that they’d want to see that type of post than if they left a Like on the post,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement, quoted by Mashable.

So even if you have been using Angry or Sad as a means to show that you dissaprove of that kind of content, you`ve just been sending event stronger signals to Facebook the you are interested in said type of content.

And if you still don`t believe me: “so we are updating News Feed to weigh reactions a little more than Likes when taking into account how relevant the story is to each person,” the Facebook spokesperson concluded, quotes Mashable.

Well it kind of make sense that putting in the effort to use a reaction, rather than just pressing Like emphasizes a stronger interest. But that`s about it for the differences. All reactions will be valued equally for now, according to Business Insider.

So if you don`t want to show interest in something on Facebook you should just ignore it, as you did before reactions we`re introduced.
